Painting by Alec Galloway entitled Sugar Bomb

In all aspects of my work whether glass or fine art you will recognise certain themes and interests, which seem to regularly occur.

In every sense it is my ties to the West of Scotland landscape that continue to inform my work. Within this context I am particularly interested in family and social histories, the sense of belonging that many individuals feel for a particular place, and the mixed fortunes and consequences in relation to the redevelopment of our towns and ever changing coastlines.

The great Cornish painter Peter Lanyon said that he sought to "describe a mile of history in a gesture". I find this quote particularly inspiring, it captures the spirit and the immediacy that Lanyon demonstrated in his painting and it resonates deeply within me.
